Rosario Central is closely identified with the vertical Blue and Yellow stripes of its traditional home shirt. The club was established in Rosario on December 24, 1889, originally as Central Argentine Railway Athletic Club, an organization created by workers of the Central Argentine Railway. The institution adopted its present Spanish name in 1903 as membership expanded beyond railway employees. Rosario Central experimented with several uniform combinations during its early decades before establishing the blue-and-yellow vertically striped shirt in 1912. That arrangement became the club’s enduring visual signature and is reflected throughout its identity, from match kits to club facilities. Central plays its home matches at the Gigante de Arroyito, its long-established stadium in the Arroyito neighborhood of northern Rosario.

How the Auriazul Shirt Took Shape

Rosario Central did not begin with the striped design seen today. Early club colors included red and white, while blue gradually entered the uniform during the first years of the twentieth century. In 1907, the team used a blue shirt with a yellow collar, bringing together the two colors that would define its later identity. By 1912, the club had adopted the vertical Blue and Yellow stripes that became its traditional home look. The combination also explains the widely used Spanish description auriazul, referring to the club’s yellow-and-blue identity. Modern home shirts continue to reinterpret the same striped arrangement while preserving those two colors as the central elements of Rosario Central’s appearance.
