What are Lanus's colors?
The Garnet Shirt at the Heart of Lanús
Club Atlético Lanús is immediately identified by its deep Garnet shirt, a color that also gives the club its familiar Granate nickname. Founded on January 3, 1915, in Lanús, Buenos Aires Province, the club has developed a visual identity centered on Garnet and White. The home strip is traditionally dominated by garnet, while white has long served as a contrasting and alternate color. Lanús plays at Estadio Ciudad de Lanús – Néstor Díaz Pérez, widely known as La Fortaleza, which opened in 1929. Its football honors include the 2007 Apertura, Copa Sudamericana titles in 2013 and 2025, the 2016 Argentine championship, and the 2026 Recopa Sudamericana.
From Red and White to Granate
Lanús did not begin with its modern garnet identity in fully settled form. In February 1915, the club’s founders provisionally approved Red and White for the shirts and flag. By late April, however, club records were already referring to players wearing grana-colored shirts, and in May the board commissioned garnet rosettes with a white button. These early decisions help explain how Garnet became the club’s defining visual marker and the basis of the nickname Granate. White remained part of the identity as a contrasting color, establishing the garnet-and-white combination associated with Lanús today.
