What are Club America's colors?
Club América’s Yellow Shirt and Navy Blue Identity
Club América’s yellow and navy blue identity can be traced directly to the club’s beginnings in Mexico City. When the team was formed on October 12, 1916, an early uniform combined a light cream-colored shirt with navy blue shorts. That pairing became the basis of the club’s long-standing azulcrema visual identity. Over time, the pale cream tone developed into the stronger yellow now associated with América, while dark blue remained an important contrasting color on shirts, shorts, trim, and other club designs. The combination is especially recognizable on home kits, where yellow normally provides the dominant visual field. Club América’s 2026–27 home jersey continues that tradition with a bright yellow base and design elements inspired by shirts worn during the 1980s and 1990s. More than a century after the club’s foundation, yellow and navy blue still provide the clearest link between its earliest uniform and its modern appearance.
How Cream Evolved Into América’s Modern Yellow
The change from cream to a brighter yellow is one of the most noticeable developments in Club América’s visual history. The club’s earliest shirts were considerably paler than the saturated yellow familiar today, which explains why the traditional identity is still described with the Spanish term azulcrema, meaning blue and cream. During the later twentieth century, stronger yellow shades became increasingly prominent and eventually defined the modern home look. Anniversary and heritage-inspired kits have occasionally revisited lighter tones, allowing older uniform traditions to reappear without replacing the established yellow-and-navy combination. This gradual evolution gives Club América an unusual degree of continuity: the exact shade has changed, but the underlying contrast established in 1916 remains recognizable in contemporary kits.
